The commission process is a partnership between artist and buyer. A commission is a very personal painting of a treasured subject; one which will be viewed and enjoyed for years to come. I take this responsibility very seriously. At the beginning, there is an understanding that you like my style and work and want a portrait that will reflecting those things. For my part, I will communicate with you about your subject and ideas and then work from your photograph(s) until I capture the essence or spark of the subject to your satisfaction. To this end, I will provide you with updates throughout the process and make adjustments as necessary. I want to you to be completely pleased with the end result.
Timeline: I schedule one month for each commission of one subject. Additional time may be needed for more than one subject. At times, there is a waiting list. Pricing depends on the size of the piece, the cost of materials to make it, the number of subjects included, Virginia sales tax, and packing/shipping costs if necessary. I will provide you with a detailed total before work begins.
Base price for one subject: $2 per square inch + materials. My minimal size is 10″ x 10.”
Additional subjects like people, detailed buildings, cars, statues, pets, or anything else taking time and precision, are $50 each.
Payment: A 50% retainer is required up front with the remainder to be paid when the portrait is completed to your satisfaction, and before it is mailed.
Please feel free to contact me about your commission request or with any questions.
